The inaugural Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Advanced Practice Provider Summit conference in Orlando was a resounding success! Many thanks to the attendees and presenters for showing our partners and community that we are invested in learning and making a difference, by providing and delivering guideline-based cost-effective care. Barriers, social determinants of health, and lifestyle medicine were common threads in the talks that can affect every sub-specialty – and I am confident that PAs will be part of the solution.
We were thrilled to have AAPA president Dr. Ogunfiditimi attend (pictured top right with Past APAC Presidents Amy Simone, Viet Le, and myself) and help open the conference with the conversation about advocating for patients, our practice, and our profession. We hope you can join us next year!

Call for Committees
Do you specialize in Heart Failure, Electrophysiology, Vascular Medicine, or Preventive Cardiology? Do you have a specialty that is not currently represented on our leadership team? Do you want to actively contribute to the growth and development of APAC?
By bringing your expertise into a current committee or by forming a new committee, you can help us achieve excellence in advancing cardiovascular health and promoting cardiology practice, which is integral to our mission.
APAC is excited to celebrate all PAs during National PA Week, October 6-12. You can help spread the word: PAs Go Beyond with helpful resources from the AAPA.
Do you know a PA who goes beyond? Since going beyond is natural to PAs, AAPA knows many stories of PAs who do so, and we’d love to hear them. Please spend a few minutes sharing your story with us! And please ask any family members, friends, or even your own patients to do the same.
The World Heart Federation utilizes World Heart Day on September 29th as a global celebration of the heart, with the goal to stop the world's biggest killer: Cardiovascular disease (CVD).
In observance of National PAD Month, we hope to make this an important month to kick off an increased awareness of PAD testing.
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a leading - and preventable - cause of death in the United States. If affects nearly 20 million Americans, and 200,000 of them - disproportionately from minority communities - suffer avoidable amputations every year.
PAD is the worst form of CLI and more awareness in all of our communities will help us meet our mission of "ending amputations and death due to CLI."
In the next five years, one in four of your patients with Peripheral Artery Disease will suffer a heart attack, stroke, amputation, or death.
You can change this outcome with the latest prevention, detection, and treatment strategies.
- Robert R. Ross, PA-C APAC Co-Chairman of the PAD Committee
Additionally, Cardio Smart's PAD Condition Center provides tools and resources to share with patients so that they can better understand their condition and facilitate shared decision-making conversations between patients and providers.
APAC is a proud Cosponsor of H.R. 4261, the Amputation Reduction and Compassion (ARC) Act
To address PAD, Congressman Payne, Jr. has introduced the Amputation Reduction and Compassion (ARC) Act of 2023, which would:
Create a peripheral artery disease (PAD) education program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Establish coverage for PAD screening of at-risk beneficiaries under Medicare and Medicaid.
Require the HHS Secretary to consult with organizations to establish standards for PAD screening tests.
Develop a voluntary pilot program to support nontraumatic, lower-limb, major amputation prevention, including through patient risk modification and management, early screening and detection, surveillance, testing, and treatment for PAD.
Our very own Robert R. Ross, PA-C (APAC Co-Chairman of the PAD Committee) is speaking at MAPA this year. Bob's session, titled 'Understanding the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) Workshop', will be on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 1-3 PM
