CONGRATULATIONS TO PA ROBERT LEE WOOTEN

Robert Lee Wooten, PA-C, MS is currently an Assistant Professor at Wake Forest School of Medicine.  He has been a clinically practicing PA for almost 40 years in the areas of Family Practice and Emergency Medicine.  Additionally, he is a County Medical Examiner in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the State of North Carolina.  PA Wooten has been actively involved in various administrative committees including serving as a member of the Professionalism and Honor Council, Alumni Relations Committee, and Student Progress Committee.  Since 2010, he has served as the Director of PA/NP Services for Forsyth Emergency Professional Association as well as a member of the Forsyth Medical Center Emergency Department Peer Review Committee.  

PA Wooten is actively involved in numerous professional associations including the African Heritage PA Caucus where he served as President in 1999, North Carolina Academy of PAs President in 1997. In addition, he has been a key contributor to both the PA Foundation and the National PA History Society where he is currently completing his term as a Trustee for the Board of Directors.  He served on numerous AAPA Committees and served as Representative to the Commission to End Healthcare Disparities that was under the AMA.   PA Wooten then served as Secretary of AAPA from 2002-2006 and continued in leadership to become President of AAPA from 2011-2012.

Both locally and nationally, PA Wooten has presented at numerous professional meetings.  He has lectured at academic institutions, AAPA Constituent Organizations, and national organizations such as the National Medical Association (NMA) and the American Academy of PAs (AAPA).

He has received numerous awards throughout his career including the 2003 Annual Silent Auction Award in Appreciation of Commitment and Service to the PA Foundation, the 2007 Man of Wisdom Award from Elim Christian Fellowship Church, and the 2017 Ailanthus Award for Outstanding Service to Students and the PA Profession Connecting to the Community at SUNY Downstate.
